Book Table at USU

Please keep our evangelistic team in prayer as we share the Gospel with students on the Utah State campus. We are also in the process of getting a permit for a weekly indoor book table and outreach. Pray for favor with the administration, as it's going to be "out of season" here very soon!

“Preach the Word;
be prepared in season and out of season;
correct, rebuke and encourage—
with great patience and careful instruction.”

Outreach for Independence Day

On Tuesday night, we had a big group of people come together to share the Word of Christ with the lost in Cache Valley. We handed out a couple thousand tracts, had a few one-on-one conversations, and three of the brothers open-air preached. Please continue to keep us in your prayers, and do consider joining us for the next outreach! God has promised us that His Word does not return void, may we go and spread that Word.

Agape Leadership: Lessons in Spiritual Leadership
from the Life of R.C. Chapman
Review by Brad Scheelke

Do you desire to grow in love and humility to glorify Christ? Do you want the Father to change you so that others will see Jesus in you? This stimulating and inspiring short biography gives a high vision of God’s faithfulness to change one man to reflect Christ. And as we start the 21st century, we desperately need examples of what Christian leaders are to be like. Robert Cleaver Chapman (1803-1902) provides an extraordinary example of Christ-like, agape leadership. Although little known today, he was a widely respected Christian leader in England during the 19th century. Chapman became legendary in his own time for his gracious ways, his patience, his kindness, his balanced judgment, his ability to reconcile people in conflict, his absolute fidelity to Scripture, and his loving pastoral care. By the end of his life, Chapman was known worldwide for his love, wisdom and compassion. He became so well known in England that a letter from abroad addressed only to "R. C. Chapman, University of Love, England" was correctly delivered to him! See godly, pastoral leadership in action through these biographical snapshots from Chapman's life.

"The saintliest man I ever knew."
–-Charles Spurgeon

"R.C. Chapman's life is a vivid illustration of Jesus’’ teaching. I have given a copy of the book to pastors and ministry leaders with the prayer that we might reject a professional ministry mindset and follow Jesus as Chapman did."
-- Peter Hubbard, Pastor/Teacher, North Hills Community Church, Taylors, SC

(Agape Leadership, by Robert L. Peterson & Alexander Strauch; paperback; 76 pages; $6.00) For $6.00 Oasis Books will send it free postage (via media mai) in the USA. It is available in Spanish for the same deal.

Love and humility: introduction

Love and humility are the two most glaring blind spots in the Christian church. This is true for individual believers as well as for assemblies of saints. It is true for me and it is true for you. Do you want to shrink your blind spots? Are you willing to have help? About fifteen years ago, God in his kindness and wisdom began intensifying the light of his holiness on these two blind spots in my life. He has given me much conversation with other saints about love and humility. This has blessed me. I hope over the coming weeks to share thoughts from scripture on love and humility not simply to inform but also transform us by the renewing of our minds. “Love builds up but knowledge puffs up.” Let us seek to “grow” in love and humility not just to “know” in love and humility. We can learn from saints who have gone before us. They are part of the great crowd of witnesses testifying to God’s faithfulness. God has granted me the privilege of being a full-time literature missionary in Utah for over 20 years. Much blessing has come to me from hearing from saints from various traditions and centuries–through books and The Book. I hope to share some of that blessing through book recommendations and stimulating quotations.

“It is better to lose your pocket book than your temper.”–Robert C. Chapman

Losing which of these bothers you more?

Agape Leadership is a short biography of Robert Chapman. It is filled with humor and piercing words. It stimulates the reader to a higher vision of Christ. It is a good book to read aloud as a family.
